Terror makes a house call
It’s not only in Gaza where military-age males stream across the border
Terror made a house call on the peaceful innocents of southern Israel last week. As we recover from the horror and revulsion from the scenes of the attack, our minds also broaden and attempt to capture the ramifications and implications therein. Several thoughts spring to mind. This was a meticulously planned incursion which took time and care to plan and execute. The terrorists used misdirection and distraction with missile barrages and West Bank unrest. It underscores again the nature of the long game played by our enemies, especially those driven by ideology to destroy us alongside Israel. They have the patience of generations and a willingness to sacrifice generations in their quest. This brutal reminder must serve us in our preparation for and defense against their murderous plans, and those of like mind.
We turn our attention necessarily to our own homeland. The U.S. Border Patrol recently reported a total of 6.3 million registered encounters at the southern border during the current administration. Almost all of these are allowed into the country while awaiting some far-off hearing which will never come. The illegal wave is arriving now at an annual rate of three million registered, which will mean close to 10 million total registered and perhaps the same number unregistered ‘gotaways’ before next year’s election. Perhaps 20 million new residents from all over the world in one administration. That is certainly an historic accomplishment. No new law prescribed it, nor did a vote endorse it.
Up to last week, I think many Americans looked upon those illegally arriving as poor economic sufferers, losers of the global location lottery, innocent victims of nothing more than being born in a bad country with poor governance and slender opportunities. Compassionately, many believe that accepting the tired and poor from other nations is a noble goal, perhaps our national duty. While it may indeed be compassionate from the perspective of those fleeing their circumstances, it is patently illegal under U.S. law for economic migrants to be granted asylum, and it is clearly detrimental to the lives of U.S. citizens already struggling to get by.
Would be naïve to think our worst enemies are not taking advantage of our border
But now, in the stark face of this week’s cowardly depravity, we must take a new look at those arriving over our own borders. These are not all hungry poor who seek only an opportunity to live peaceably with their families. We know there are terror cells within our country already planted and blending into our communities, using tradecraft to appear as assimilating immigrants and well-meaning residents. They have had years to accumulate weaponry, intelligence, and other resources in advance of operations in the country. They patiently wait and plan.
Add to that now hundreds of thousands of military-age males entering from as far as China, all of Africa, the Middle East as well as South America. They will not need that many to carry out heinous attacks here in the homeland at a time and place of their choosing. We must simply put a halt to the open border policy immediately. There is no rhyme nor reason for it, and cities across the country are being inundated with thousands of needy arrivals, distracting us and absorbing our resources. All the while our most dangerous adversaries plot quietly among us. I cannot imagine a more dangerous set of circumstances as we approach our next Presidential election.
We are now actively involved in two global wars as a major supporter. Either could combust into something far more dreadful now. We pray for not another in Taiwan, yet weakness invites predators in nature. Spread thin and without any real effort to know who is coming inside our country and where they are going, we must prepare for the worst. Sadly, it would be a miracle now if we didn’t face major terror events in America in the months to come. Be well prepared, one never knows when the day is at hand.
